Homemade & Thrifted Gift Ideas

We love homemade and thrifted gifts because they give us an opportunity to be creative and add a personal touch, and they are also sustainable. When we opt for homemade gifts, we infuse our presents with love and intention, transforming ordinary materials or garden produce into unique treasures that reflect our relationships. Each handcrafted item tells a story and showcases the time and effort invested into its creation.

We also love thrifted gifts because they breathe new life into pre-loved items, reduce waste, and minimise our environmental footprint. By shopping second-hand, we promote a circular economy, where resources are reused and repurposed rather than discarded. We would love to see thrifted gifts the norm! #ditchblackfridaysales

Both homemade and thrifted gifts embody thoughtfulness and creativity, reminding us that the best presents come from the heart, not from a store shelf! They encourage us to cherish Mother Earth while celebrating the art of giving more intentionally and sustainably.

These are our homemade and thrifted gift ideas …

Homemade jams, pickles & preserves

Turning garden or farmers market produce into homemade gifts are always a winner. We particulary love Mango chilli chutney for Christmas because you can often pick up a tray of mangos for under $30

Jars of chocolate coated ginger & coffee beans

This gift is super easy but always appreciated. Pop into your local bulk food store, pick up a jar, fill it & wrap a ribbon on it- easy!

These goodie jars are from Yamba Wholefoods

Chocolate Sweet Potato Brownies (with homegrown roses on top)

Homemade brownies are the ultimate last minute gift! Vegan & Gluten free too.

A pot of herbs or strawberries

We love gifting a terracotta pot filled with a yummy herb like basil, or a hanging basket of strawberries.. the gift that keeps on giving!

Cold brew coffee & a thrifted mug

The most thoughtful gifts are sometimes the simplest. For your coffee loving friends and family, thrift a gorgeous mug like this one & make them a jar of cold brew coffee!

Thrift a collection of pre-loved goodies

Whether your giftee loves camping or picnics, cooking, vintage clothes, arts and crafts, or gardening, gift them a collection of thrifted finds they will love. We particularly love this idea because it shows you know what there hobbies & interests are.

If you don’t have time to trawl through op shops, get in touch with Casey @theboilersuit who has the eye for pre-loved items that are sure to bring joy!

Books Books Books!

We couldn’t do a gifts blog without including books.. the ultimate gifts & once again can show the person who much notice you take. You can gift a book on the giftees hobbies or interest, their favorite artist or author. Christiaan was recently gifted a whole box of books of his favorite authors.

Top tip- we also keep all our ribbons so we can reuse them!
